Competitive Obedience Training

It was not a choice of training dogs or not training dogs. It was a choice of loving my life or not loving my life” ~ Angela Watson

Want a space for training ?

Come to The Paddock, Berkshire, UK.

There’s dog sports, and then there’s dog sports. If you’re reading this you’ll know there’s more to our hobby of competitive obedience, than just a simple sport. It’s about learning, adventure, and seeing the world with a dog’s eyes. There’s as many ways to experience dog training as there are ways to tweak a method, and it’s been a a way of life for me for over a decade. I travel the UK, with the dogs and a campervan, going wherever the training camps and competing lead. It’s my passion. My art. And my heart. There’s no prize money, just the thrill of competing and doing the sport I love with my dogs. Dogs have inspired me to do stuff in the world that pushes me beyond my comfort zone. And for me, training a dog to a high level is ALL about relationship, connection, and love, in a way that brings out the best in both of us.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that many people who are kind, compassionate professionals, often get caught in a ‘tug-of-war’ when it comes to training their dogs…on the one hand they want to raise their dogs in a way that feels connected to their deep values…and on the other hand they feel like they have to use a training technique taught by an ‘expert’ even though it feels contrived, harsh, or manipulative to them.

The word Obedience is often misunderstood. It’s often thought to mean doing what your told, or submitting to someone’s authority. But at it’s root, the word ‘obey’ means ‘hear’. Listening is fundamental to building respectful, loving relationships with both humans and canines.

So it makes sense to me to commit to sharing my passion for positive, reward based Obedience training, and to encourage more people to train their dogs in a way that’s in alignment with who they are, whether it’s for competition or just for fun.

I run a number of monthly ‘self-help’ training days, workshops, and 1-1 Obedience lessons, at my secure Paddock in Berkshire, UK. Here, we can joyfully train our dogs, in a natural environment, with natural distractions, and some cheery words of encouragement, tips, support, coffee and cakes, so that you and your dogs are ready for anything in the ring.

Self-Help Days (for active competitors from Intro to Championship C)

Monthly ‘self-help’ days are 10am – 4pm (or until we finish), every month on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

1-1 COMPETITIVE OBEDIENCE LESSONS & COMPETITION PREP (for new & experienced handlers at any level).

1-1 HANDLER COACHING ONLINE. I know that training a dog to competition level is not always easy. Sometimes you just need to talk things over with someone who has no agenda, someone who is a trained listener, and will help you figure out what you and your dog needs, so you can stop worrying and start enjoying doing the sport you love with your dogs. Well if you want any of those or more, you can book me for a Zoom, online 1-1 session. You may want this as a follow on to your Obedience lesson.

£75 per session (60 mins).
